DRYDEN, N.Y. — Police have arrested an Ithaca man that allegedly assaulted another man with a frying pan during a dispute.

At about 1 :21 a.m. Saturday, New York State Police at Ithaca responded to a 911 report of an assault at a home on Delong Avenue in Dryden. Police say during a verbal dispute, 59-year-old Patrick R. Smuda, of Ithaca, struck another man in the back of the head with a “household item,” causing injury.

The household item was a frying pan, according to Trooper Nathan Riegal, public information officer for Troop C.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for a laceration.

Smuda was charged with felony second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Smuda was arraigned in the Town of Caroline Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond.
