DRYDEN, N.Y. — Two men are facing drug charges after being pulled over for speeding Friday in Dryden, police said in a news release.

Dennis W. Heverly, 55, of Groton, was driving a2009 Pontiac Vibe on Peruville Road when he was pulled over for speeding at 9:02 p.m. Friday.

Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies reported that Heverly attempted to conceal crystal methamphetamine in his hand and he engaged in a short physical confrontation with officers before they took him in to custody.

A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up more drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Heverly was charged with misdemeanors for two counts seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle while registration was suspended/revoked. He’s also facing violations for unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding and having an uninsured motor vehicle.

A passenger in the vehicle, Douglas P. Swarts, 35, of Ithaca, was also found in possession of drugs, police said. He was charged with a misdemeanor for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both men are scheduled to appear at the town of Dryden court March 6.
