Tompkins County Health Department

ITHACA — Tompkins County Health Department officials are looking for information on a dog that reportedly bit someone in the Collegetown area this weekend.

The health department is seeking information about a dog described as a young, brown, male dog who bit someone around 9 p.m. Saturday in the Collegetown area. The dog was accompanied by an adult male owner, the health department said. The person was bitten while playing with the leashed dog.

The health department is looking to verify the dog’s vaccination status and health over a 10-day period. If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy by the department, rabies can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person bitten will not be necessary.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
