BOSTON — An Ithaca native made headlines as a hero this week after rescuing a man from subway tracks in Boston.
Several Boston media outlets have reported this week that a group of freshmen from Tufts University quickly rushed to save a man who stumbled onto the tracks on Friday. One of the freshmen was 20-year-old Eric Sinton, originally from Ithaca.
Video footage of the Davis Square MBTA station shows a man stumbling down the platform before falling into middle of the tracks. Sinton and his friends were sitting nearby and saw the man fall. Sinton, wearing a green T-shirt in the video, jumped right down and put his arm around the man and was able to haul him off the tracks with help from his friends before the next train arrived.
According to CBS Boston, the 47-year-old man who fell later admitted he was intoxicated. He had also hurt his ankle badly in the fall and couldn’t get up.
Subway trains arrive every few minutes. Sinton told CBS Boston that a train had just arrived before the man fell, so he knew he had a few minutes to help.

Sinton is an Ithaca High School graduate and was the subject of an Ithaca Voice article in 2015 after he spent a gap year biking about 3,000 miles across the country.
Tufts University is on spring break this week and Sinton spoke to Fox25 Boston from Ithaca. Discussing the incident, Sinton told them, “I’ll probably never forget it.”
