ITHACA, N.Y. — A house fire was quickly brought under control on Easter Sunday in the City of Ithaca.

The call came in around 4:15 p.m. for smoke coming from a house at 715 Cliff Street. Ithaca Police in the area found the back deck on fire and attempted to put it out with an extinguisher, but the fire was too intense.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly deployed two hose lines on the fire. One crew put a ladder up to the porch out back and knocked down the fire there, while others went inside to extinguish the fire that spread into the house and search for any occupants. No one was home at the time and no one was injured.

The fire was under control in about twenty minutes and appeared to be caused by smoking materials discarded on the porch.

Along with the Fire and Police Departments, Bangs Ambulance responded to the scene as well. The Newfield and Lansing Fire Departments stood by at Ithaca’s Central Fire Station with off duty Ithaca Firefighters to cover other emergencies in the city and Cayuga Heights FD stood by at their station. Crews were on scene until about 7:00 p.m.

Fire Officials remind everyone to properly dispose of all smoking materials.
