ITHACA, N.Y. — Police have identified the man accused of shooting a person in the Ithaca Commons and firing into a crowd early Sunday morning.

Yakez Cornett Sr., 22, is charged with attempted murder, second-degree assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. was arraigned at Ithaca City Court around 9 a.m. Sunday. His bail bond

He was arraigned at Ithaca City Court around 9 a.m. Sunday. He’s currently being held without bail.

Police were called around 1:20 a.m. to the Ithaca Commons after gunshots broke out in front of the popular nightclub Silky Jones.

Multiple witnesses at the scene said an argument broke out in front of the car, prompting one person to want to fight. The other person allegedly tried to walk away from the situation and was shot in his back and leg.

He was awake and conscious when transferred to a hospital, Acting Ithaca Police Chief Pete Tyler said.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, near the intersection of North Cayuga and West State streets, on the sidewalk near the Cornell Store.
