LANSING, N.Y. — An Ithaca man led police on a car chase Monday night that ended in a wreck near the intersection of Franklin Drive and Armstrong Road in Lansing.

Dennis E. Noonan, 24, of Ithaca, allegedly climbed from the front passenger seat onto a woman who was driving the vehicle and forcibly took control of the car around 7 p.m. on Franklin Road, according to documents filed by New York State Police at the Lansing court.

A New York State Police officer attempted to pull the 2000 Nissan Maxima over, but Noonan did not stop until he blew past a stop sign and crashed the car. Police said the female driver was injured and another male passenger in backseat of the vehicle was not injured. In a mugshot of Noon, he appears to have a bloody, injured nose.

The documents filed by police go on to say that Noonan had a stolen Mossberg 410 ga. shotgun that had previously been reported stolen in his possession while in the vehicle.

After being arrested, state police say further investigation revealed that Noonan had been involved in a burglary of the Valero gas station in Dryden a few days earlier. In the early morning May 26, Noonan allegedly forced entry into the gas station and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and property while armed, police said.

Noonan is facing charges in Dryden and Lansing. He’s been charged with the felonies of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree burglary, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Misdemeanor charges include second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, driving while ability impaired by drugs and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Noonan is also accused traffic violations including driving without a license and not wearing a seatbelt.

Noonan was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond on the Town of Lansing charges and an additional $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond on the Town of Dryden charges.

Noonan is due to reappear May 31 to the Town of Dryden Court and June 1 to the Town of Lansing Court.
