Tompkins County, N.Y. — Jim Dennis, who represents District 5, has announced he will seek re-election.
He is running on a platform of “responsible and progressive leadership,” a news release issued Thursday said.
Dennis lives in Trumansburg and has lived in Tompkins County for 46 years. He represents District 5, which includes the Town of Ulysses and parts of the Towns of Enfield and Ithaca.
Dennis is a retired teacher and taught in the public school system for 34 years. He retired from the Ithaca City School District in 2004, according to his bio on the Tompkins County legislators page. He previously served on Ithaca Common Council and spent two years as acting mayor.
Dennis chairs the Industrial Development Agency and the Budget, Personnel and Capital Committee.
“I have been honored to represent District 5 on the legislature,” Dennis in a news release. “I’m running for re-election to ensure our county’s legislature continues to maintain the fiscal responsibility our families expect, while providing the services they need.”
Two people have stepped up so far to challenge Dennis for the District 5 seat — Keith Hannon and Anne Koreman.
