ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Fire Department would like to remind everyone to have fun and be safe this Independence Day and all summer long.
Every year over 8,000 people nation wide are treated for fireworks-related injuries and children less than 15 years old account for 40% of the estimated injuries.
Kids should never play with fireworks. Things like firecrackers, rockets, and sparklers are just too dangerous. If you give kids sparklers, make sure they keep them outside and away from the face, clothing, and hair. Sparklers can reach more than 1,800° Fahrenheit (982° Celsius) — hot enough to melt gold.
In the City of Ithaca, other than “sparklers”, the use of fireworks by those who do not have a permit is strictly illegal.
For those that love to watch a good fireworks show, please leave it to the pros… the City of Ithaca will host it’s fireworks at Stewart Park Monday, July 3 rd . So come down and watch a fantastic show with the entire family, and have a fun and safe Independence Day.
