ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca police are investigating the death of 34-year-old man found in his South Quarry Street apartment.

At about 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Ithaca Police Department responded to the 100 block of South Quarry Street for a report of a man who was unresponsive and not breathing. When officers arrived, they found the man deceased.

The cause of death has not been determined yet, and the Ithaca Police Department has launched a death investigation.

Police say “unknown substances and chemicals” were found inside the apartment.

Several local, state and federal crime scene service agencies, including the New York State CCSERT Team, are investigating the death.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family.
