Ithaca Police: man burglarized apartment, was stabbed by resident

ITHACA, N.Y. — On June 11, 2017 at about 4:28 am IPD officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Cayuga Street and North Titus Avenue regarding the report of a male who had just been stabbed. While en route officers were advised by dispatch that a burglary had just been reported of an apartment in the 200 block of West Spencer Street had just been reported wherein a person was stabbed during the burglary. Officers secured the male in police custody and began to sort through what occurred.

Officers determined that the male who was stabbed had just forced his way into the apartment and that the residents of the apartment fought with him to prevent him from entering the apartment. The male was able to gain access into the apartment and during the ensuing altercation he was stabbed. The male then fled the apartment.

The male who was stabbed has been identified as Tarrant Sheppard. Officers determined that Sheppard and the residents of the apartment are known to each other. Sheppard suffered a stab wound to the abdomen and was transported to a local hospital by Bangs Ambulance. The stab wound does not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

At this time Sheppard has been charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony. Sheppard was arraigned by Judge Wallace and remanded to Tompkins County Jail without bail.
