The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) enthusiastically announces its dynamic lineup for the CFCU Summer Concert Series! Free and fun for the entire family, these melodic exhibitions will take place at 6:00 PM each Thursday (except for two shows) between June 22 and September 7, 2017, at the Bernie Milton Pavilion on the Ithaca Commons, 202 East State St. Ithaca.

The series will cover a variety of genres, ranging from Latin jazz to mountain music to soul and pop. Notable performances include two local series:  Cosmic Joke Collective, performing on July 6, and Crucial Reggae Social Club, performing Aug. 24.

Cosmic Joke Collective is an eclectic group of local musicians that will perform covers from other local acts during its “We’ve Got You Covered” presentation. Check out Vee Da Bee with Yali covering Gunpoets, Sam & Mandy will perform some of the Blind Spots tunes, and Jif & Michael Edmonson will cover Johnny Dowd and others. In between these acts, Jen Cork & McKenzie Jones and Jennie Lowe will showcase their acoustic talents. Crucial Reggae Social Club is a very popular reggae team featuring musicians from John Brown’s Body, Jimkata, Big Green Sound Machine, and other popular neighborhood groups.

On Saturday, July 8, Downtown Ithaca will proudly welcome the U.S. Army Field Band and Chorus for their performance from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dewitt Park. This is must see performance as these groups only tour every two and a half years!

Another highly recommended show is the Saint Mela concert on Wednesday, July 19. Saint Mela, a New York City-based hybrid Indie-pop trio formerly known as Alter, is among the highlights of the legendary GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance being held in partnership with Ithaca Underground on July 20.

The Summer Concert Series will conclude Sept. 7 with a Battle of the Bands competition. More details on this special event will be available later this summer.

While you’re attending the Summer Concert Series, visit the concession stand where you’ll find a selection of tasty wines — unoaked chardonnay, dry rose, Riesling and Cab Franc — from Wagner Vineyards, and Green Street Pharmacy’s delicious non-alcoholic Italian sodas will also be available for purchase. Please have your state ID ready when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

“We are thrilled to once again present a lineup featuring some extremely talented performers. We are truly grateful for CFCU and all of our other sponsors for helping to keep this crowd-pleasing tradition alive,” said Tatiana Sy, DIA Special Events Director.

The CFCU Community Credit Union (CFCU) returns as title sponsor of the award-winning CFCU Summer Concert Series and will be continuing their support of the United Way through a fundraiser with exciting prizes. Concertgoers can buy a reusable cup, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the United Way, and be entered to win special prizes throughout the summer.

This year, the series is also supported by Seneca Beverage Company, Cayuga Radio Group, Ithaca Marriott Downtown on the Commons, Green Street Pharmacy, Wagner Vineyards, and Cornell University Community Relations.
