ITHACA, N.Y. — Police have identified a man they say died Wednesday in his apartment on the 100 block of South Quarry Street.
David Zamos, 34, was a recent Cornell University graduate who was found dead in his apartment around 7:37 p.m. Wednesday after it was reported that he was unresponsive and not breathing.
Police said “unknown substances and chemicals” were found inside the apartment and a death investigation was launched. Several local, state and federal crime scene service agencies, including the New York State CCSERT Team were part of the investigation.
Police said the investigation is ongoing but there are no obvious signs of foul play as of Friday morning.
Acting Chief of Police Pete Tyler said in a news release, “I am saddened that this young man has passed away at such a young age. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones during what I know is a difficult time. I’m relieved to see that the substances and chemicals discovered inside the young man’s apartment posed no public health concern for our community. I hope this young man’s family as well as the east hill community can find comfort and solace at this difficult time.”
