ITHACA, N.Y. — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Tompkins County.
The National Weather Service said some storms could be severe with large hail, damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rain.
The strong winds could damage trees and power lines. As of 8:10 p.m., 72 people were without power, according to New York State Electric and Gas.
The warning is in effect until about 9 p.m.
The NWS advises to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building during the storm.
The severe thunderstorm watch includes Tompkins, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Seneca and Yates counties.

The NWS has also issued a hazardous weather outlook and flash flood watch.
