NEWFIELD, N.Y. — A Trumansburg man was arrested on Sunday after it was alleged that he assaulted a teenager less than 17 years old the day before.
Steven A. Santmyer, 35, was arrested by New York State police after troopers responded to complaints of a dispute at a home on West Danby Road in Newfield. Following their investigation, police say they found that during the physical dispute, Santmyer allegedly “grabbed, pushed and punched the victim in the face.”
According to a press release from New York State police, the victim was less than 17 years old and did not require any medical attention. An order of protection was issued against Santmyer on behalf of the victim.
Santmyer is charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned in the Town of Newfield Court and was later released. He will appear in the Town of Newfield Court for a hearing on June 21.
