LANSING, N.Y. — An Ithaca man is charged with felony burglary after he allegedly stole items from a residence in Lansing.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at about 10:35 p.m. Tuesday. The homeowner told deputies that when returning home with their young children, she saw a man in their home. She said the man stole items and left the residence.

Deputies found a man matching the suspect description shortly after in the backyard of the residence, the sheriff’s office said. The homeowner identified the man as the same person she saw a few minutes prior.

The sheriff’s office has charged Matthew A. Kriewald, 33, of Ithaca, with second-degree burglary, a felony.

Kriewald was arraigned in the Town of Lansing Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 insured bond.
