ITHACA, N.Y. — The Enchanted Badger, a shop and hangout for board game enthusiasts, is closing next month.

In an announcement Wednesday on Facebook, owners said they have decided not to renew their lease. The last day of business will be Sept. 2.

“Despite our wonderful gaming community, the numbers do not support the continuation of our endeavors. We want to thank all of you for being the most appreciative, loving, dedicated, and caring bunch of nerds anyone could ever ask for. This has been the best five years of our lives, and we hope that the friendships and groups that have sprung up within these green walls thrive after the doors close,” the message to patrons said.

The entire store will be on sale beginning Saturday. Everything will be 25 percent, or an additional 25 percent  off in the case of clearance and sale items.

For about five years, The Enchanted Badger on Elmira Road in Ithaca has been hub not just for purchasing games, but for playing them. Tables offer space for people to hang out and play a variety of board games, and there were events throughout the week.
