Tompkins County Health Department

ITHACA, N.Y. â€” The Tompkins County Health Department is asking the public to help identify a dog that reportedly bit a person in Cayuga Heights.

The health department is trying to locate a small or medium beagle mix that bit someone Tuesday morning near the intersection of Hanshaw Road and The Parkway in Cayuga Heights.

The dog was being walked on a leash by a woman who was with a man. There person bitten did not get the owner’s contact information at the time of the bite.

The health department would like to verify the vaccination status of the dog and rule out a rabies infection so post-exposure treatment for the person who was bitten is not necessary.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
