Tompkins County Health Department

DRYDEN, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Health Department is trying to locate a dog that reportedly bit a child in Dryden.

A brown dog, possibly a pit bull, wearing an orange collar was running loose Wednesday on Meadowlark Road in Dryden when it bit a child, the health department says.

The Health Department wants to verify the vaccination status of the dog over a 10-day period to rule out a rabies infection, so the child bitten does not need post-exposure treatment for rabies.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
