The Cass Park Arena celebrates its 45th anniversary this month. Join us to celebrate 45 years of fun, fitness and friendships on Saturday, November 25. We will sing “Happy Birthday” during the public ice skating session, 2:30-5:15 pm. Cake will be ceremonially cut and served at 3:45 pm.
Youth Bureau Director, Liz Klohmann encourages everyone to attend, “Cass Park is a local treasure for kids, families and everyone in our community. It’s skating season and we hope to see you on Saturday to celebrate 45 years of providing fun and healthy activities. “
Cass Park’s Rink has been the highlight of Ithaca winters since it opened on November 18, 1972. In the early 70s, the City of Ithaca took advantage of funding from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation and created the Cass Park swimming pool and ice skating rink complex, installing ball fields, tennis courts, and the inlet fitness trail nearby. This complex began operating under the auspices of the Youth Bureau in 1972. The Youth Bureau strives to provide a broad cross section of recreation programs and youth services to promote the health, happiness and well-being of all residents in the greater Ithaca area.
Today Cass Park offers public skating, lessons for children and adults, broomball and practices and games for hockey teams of all skill levels and aged players. Cass Rink is the home of Ithaca High Girls and Boys JV & Varsity and Ithaca Youth Hockey Association. During the non-ice season Cass Park has been a shelter for Ithaca Youth Bureau day camps, programs, community events, festivals and more.
