ITHACA, N.Y. â€” The annual Tompkins County Veterans Day Parade will take place this Sunday.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and step off at the corner of North Titus Avenue and South Cayuga Street. The route will go along Cayuga Street and make a left onto West State Street. The parade ends on State Street in front of VFW Post 961.

The Tompkins County Veterans Day Parade is in its 98th year and is a great family activity to honor and celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of U.S. veterans.

The parade will be full of musical groups including Penn York Highlanders Bagpipe Band, The Kirby Band and Syracuse Elks Lodge #315 Drum line. There will also be veterans, Scouts and Cornell ROTC groups. Spectators will also see Tompkins County Sheriff’s cars, Ithaca Police Swat Truck, TCAT Bus and a US Coast Guard Boat.

There will be a grandstand in front of the State Diner, where Chris Allinger from Q Country will provide commentary and information on the various groups.

Across from the grandstand will be seating for those who are unable to stand.

Free refreshments will be provided to all participants and viewers upstairs at VFW Post 961 following the parade.

The annual Veterans Day Ceremony will take place the following Saturday, on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in Dewitt Park in Ithaca.
