ITHACA, N.Y. â€” Amidst the frenzy of Wizarding Weekend – and the usual Ithaca-area Saturday bustle – approximately 600 students of Cornell University volunteered behind the scenes at numerous local non-profit organizations.

‘Into the Streets’, a part of the school’s Public Service Center, is Cornell’s largest day of community service and Oct. 28 marked the 26th year of the program’s operation.

This year, the students led a total of 38 outreach projects, the furthest of which was located at the Pennsylvania Avenue Methodist Church in Pine City, NY. Locations within Tompkins County included, GIAC, Ithaca Children’s Garden, Ithaca Community Childcare Center, Tompkins County Health Department, West Haven Farm, and the Women’s Opportunity Center.

On Oct. 3, 2017, Mayor Svante Myrick proclaimed Oct. 28 ‘Into the Streets Day’, in recognition of the program’s service to the city of Ithaca.
