ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca Firefighters responded to 211 Linden Ave, in the City of Ithaca, at 5:30 pm Tuesday for a fire alarm going off.
When firefighters arrived, they entered the five story apartment building to investigate. As they got up to the 5th floor they found heavy smoke in the hallway. A Second Alarm was struck for another engine and off duty firefighters to come in and assist. Bangs Ambulance stood by at the scene while operations were underway in the freezing conditions.
The fire was found and contained to a utility room on the 5th floor. Luckily, all occupants were away for holiday break and no one was injured in
the blaze. The job took about an hour and the cause of the fire appears to be a problem with the furnace. The city of Ithaca Building Department and the
Ithaca Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau are following up with the building owner.
