ULYSSES, N.Y. — A young man is dead after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in the town of Ulysses, an official confirmed Wednesday morning.

A single-vehicle crash was reported at 10:20 p.m. on the 1600 block of Trumansburg Road, a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said.

Lieutenant Dan Scherer, of the Trumansburg Fire Department, said a male in his mid-to-late teens was struck by a vehicle.

“We arrived to find a person had been hit and was lying in the road. We determined he was deceased very early on,” Scherer said in a statement. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was at the scene into the early morning hours trying to determine how the teen ended up in the roadway. Route 96 was closed off for about five hours at Perry City and Iradell roads while police investigated.

The incident is still being investigated.

Update at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday — A source familiar with the incident has confirmed that the crash Tuesday night was fatal after a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was killed.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is at the scene early Wednesday morning.

ULYSSES, N.Y. — Police are investigating a major crash in Ulysses that closed down part of Trumansburg Road for hours Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

A single-vehicle crash was reported at 10:20 p.m. on the 1600 block of Trumansburg Road, a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said.

The roadway was closed off at Perry City and Iradell roads where firefighters were at the scene blocking the roadway. New York State Police are the lead agency at the crash site.

Officials were unavailable to comment at the scene but several people were seen talking to police and crying.

A dispatcher said a news release is expected about the incident.
