ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca police are searching for two suspects after a man was shot early Friday at a residence on the 400 block of Lake Avenue in Ithaca.
The shooting took place around 1:40 a.m. at the townhouses near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Hancock Street on the North Side of the city, Deputy Police Chief Vincent Monticello said.
A woman called 911 and told dispatchers that a man had been shot and two men had fled the scene, police said. The man was alert when police arrived. An Air Medivac was requested, but not available at the time so Bangs Ambulance transported the man to a regional trauma center instead.
The man is in stable condition as of 8:30 a.m., police said.
Police said the incident does not appear to be random, though the investigation is ongoing.
Police are searching for two suspects. Early Friday morning, Ithaca police and deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office took to the streets in large numbers to sweep the surrounding neighborhoods.
The suspects are described as follows:
- Suspect one: Black man, slim build, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, 190 pounds, light to medium complexion, wearing an all-black sweat suit. This man reportedly had the hood up with strings drawn tight.
- Suspect two: Black man, large build, about 6-feet 1-inch tall, 240 pounds, dark complexion, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt.
In a joint statement, Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick and Johanna Anderson, Executive Director of INHS, said the neighborhood is safe and they will do everything in their power to make sure it remains so.
“The City of Ithaca, the Ithaca Police Department and Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services have been working in close coordination following the act of violence on March 8th. This is a safe neighborhood and we will do everything in our power to make sure it remains safe. The residents of 210 Hancock, and the entire neighborhood, deserve safe and comfortable homes. We continue to investigate what happens and take every necessary step to prevent future incidents,” the statement read.
