ITHACA, N.Y. — A Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit bus caught on fire Friday. No one was injured in the incident.

At about 4:45 p.m. Friday, the Trumansburg Fire Department and Ithaca Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of Route 96 for a report of a TCAT bus that was filling with smoke. When emergency crews arrived, they found the bus on fire but all occupants were out and accounted for.

Trumansburg and Ithaca fire crews worked quickly to get the fire under control. They also extinguished a nearby grass fire.

It took crews about 30 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, and fire personnel remained on-scene for about an hour to control traffic.

Trumansburg ambulance was also on scene, but no injuries were reported. New York State Police also assisted on the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
