LANSING, N.Y. –  Three people have been hospitalized following a collision involving a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning on Route 13 in Lansing.

New York State Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash at 2:05 a.m. Route 13 was shut down for five hours after police arrived at the scene to find that a car had crashed into a tractor-trailer.

The car was traveling southbound when it crossed over into the northbound lane and collided with the tractor-trailer, police say. According to officers who arrived at the scene, roads at the time of the crash were icy and covered in snow.

Upon arriving at the scene, police say they observed a small fire which had started in the vehicle but were able to extinguish it quickly to keep it from spreading.

The female driver of the car was extricated and transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for head and leg injuries. The female passenger of the car was also transported to Upstate for minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for minor injuries.

Route 13 was re-opened at 7 a.m. after police cleaned up and investigated the cause of the crash. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
