ITHACA, N.Y. — A Newfield man has been arrested after police report finding a gun, heroin, cash and packaging materials in his vehicle.
Joshua Rice, 40, of Newfield, has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
At 8:25 a.m. May 24, after obtaining a search warrant, members of the Ithaca Police Department stopped Rice while he was driving on the 300 block of Elmira Road. Rice was stopped and secured without incident, police said.
Rice and his car were taken to Ithaca police headquarters. Meanwhile, investigators from the IPD and Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and members of New York State Police CNET searched Rice’s residence in Newfield.
In the search, police found a handgun, $3,020 in U.S. currency, packaging materials and a scale. Police say the items are consistent with drug sales. Police also report finding heroin with a street value of about $1,200 in Rice’s vehicle.
