TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has recovered a number of stolen items after recent reports of thefts from cars.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office posted a message on Facebook listing nearly 20 items found in a vehicle deputies believe are stolen. Items include tools, jewelry, keys, GPS, flashlights, sports equipment, cell phones, a radar detector and others.

The sheriff’s office said they have received multiple reports of larcenies from cars in recent weeks.

Lt. Daniel Donahue, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said they are working to identify the owners of the property recovered.

Donahue said no arrests have been made in the case yet, but the investigation is ongoing.

Donahue said it is important for local residents to remove high-value items from their vehicles and lock vehicles when unattended, whether parked in a driveway, garage or public area.

He also encourages people to “report any suspicious activity such as vehicles that appear to be out of place in their neighborhoods. The warm weather brings this type of criminal activity and most residents realize when something is not right in their neighborhood. Don’t wait to report the incident, contact law enforcement when it occurs. This will help in apprehending the subjects that are responsible.”

If anyone believes they are missing items, contact 607-257-1345, extension 4455.
