1 — New Cornell dorm project

Cornell readies massive dorm project for review — Cornell has submitted the filings for its approximately 2,000 bed dormitory project. At $175 million, 25.6 acres of disturbed land and 767,400 square feet of dormitory space plus associated student program space, the only other project on the boards that exceeds the cost and scale of the North Campus Residential Initiative is the Chain Works District – however, Chain Works is supposed to be built out over a period of fifteen years. The NCRI program is seeking to do it all in just a little over three years, April 2019 to May 2022.

2 — Call for a living wage in Tompkins County

Rally highlights women’s, families’ call for a living wage in Tompkins County— “Let Tompkins live,” dozens of demonstrators chanted on the Ithaca Commons on Tuesday afternoon. The organizers and people present at the rally sought to build support for a county-wide living wage of $15.11. Minimum wage in Tompkins County is currently set by the New York state legislature at $10.40.

One speaker, Valerie King, said the gap between the minimum wage and costs of living means, “People are living one paycheck or one unexpected expense away from being homeless, jobless and making a choice of whether to feed their families. … We must fight for the equality, dignity and sustainability for all working families.”

3 — Police investigating hit and run on Prospect Street

Ithaca police investigating crash on Prospect Street— Ithaca police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred early Saturday on the 200 block of Prospect Street. Police were called to the scene for a reported “intoxicated injured person” at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

The victim sustained serious injuries to their head, neck and internally, Officer Jamie Williamson said, and was transported by ambulance to a regional hospital. Police suspect a motor vehicle was involved due to the victim’s injuries, and police are “still putting the pieces together,” Williamson said.

There were no new updates Monday.

4 — Local man arrested for burglary

State Police: Ithaca man arrested after entering residence, threatening occupant with knives— According to New York State Police, Scott W. Linderberry, 49, of Ithaca, entered a residence on Elmira Road at about 7 p.m. Thursday without permission and “menaced an occupant with knives then threw items causing damage inside.” He was charged with second-degree burglary.
