ITHACA, N.Y. — A man is in critical condition after being recovered from the Cayuga Inlet.
At about 3:20 p.m. Friday, members of the Ithaca Fire Department and Ithaca Police Department responded to the area of the 100 block of Fulton Street in the area of the Ithaca Agway for a reported unconscious man in the water. When crews arrived on scene, they found the man in the water. He was not conscious or breathing, according to the Ithaca Police Department.
The man was brought to shore by officers and other emergency personnel on the scene took over CPR efforts once the man was on shore.
Bangs Ambulance personnel transported the man to Titus Flats where a helicopter flew him to a regional trauma center for a medical condition, according to Lt. Tom Basher of the Ithaca Fire Department.
The subject has not been identified but is a 49-year-old man who resides in Ithaca, police said. The man’s medical status was listed as critical as of about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Ithaca police are investigating the incident “to determine the circumstances that led to the subject being in the inlet waters; however it does not appear to be the result of criminal or suspicious activity,” police said.
