ITHACA, N.Y. — Get your sneakers ready. This year’s Cancer Resource Center Walkathon & 5K Run is coming up in October. The goal? To raise $165,000.

The event, now in its 24th year, is a community-wide fundraiser meant to help the Cancer Resource Center provide support and assistance to families and individuals affected by cancer. The Cancer Resource Center is a local organization that “is here so that no one has to face cancer alone.” All of the funds raised as part of the event stay in the community.

The walkathon and run will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Cass Park in Ithaca. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and there will be a Zumba warm-up at 9:45 a.m. Following the event which kicks off at 10 a.m., there will be a free pancake breakfast starting at about 10:30 a.m. There will also be live entertainment and prizes.

There is a registration fee of $40 through noon Oct. 11. After that, it’s $50. Online registration is available at Headsets and dogs are strongly discouraged.

According to the event page on GiveGab, the Cancer Resource Center’s goal is to raise $165,000 this year.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to come out and have a fun time with family and friends, while simultaneously helping those in need,” Jyl Dowd, development coordinator said. “So come be a part of one of the largest and most visible fundraising events in the county!”
