ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca resident Carmen Dechellis, 58, was sentenced to one-and-a-half to three years in prison for assaulting two corrections officers at the Tompkins County Jail last year.
After pleading guilty to second-degree attempted assault, Dechellis was sentenced Wednesday to no more than three years in prison. Two orders of protection were also issued.
On Nov. 26, 2017, Dechellis was an inmate of the Tompkins County Jail after being convicted of punching Tompkins County Judge John Rowley in the face in April 2017.
According to court records, when asked to change bed linens at the jail Nov. 26, 2017, Dechellis refused and started a physical altercation. During the altercation, he reportedly tried to strike the officers and two officers suffered injuries trying to control Dechellis.
Dechellis was sentenced by Judge Joseph Cassidy and was defended by Attorney Max Brown. Deputy District Attorney Andrew Bonavia prosecuted the case.
