ITHACA, N.Y. — A Newfield man arrested in connection with drug-related charges in May, pleaded guilty Monday in Tompkins County Court to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
Ithaca police charged Joshua Rice, 40, of Newfield, with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, in May after police reportedly found cash, a gun and $1,200 worth of heroin in his vehicle. On Monday, Rice pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Ithaca Police pulled over Rice at 8:25 a.m. on May 24 after securing a search warrant, police previously said in a news release. In Rice’s vehicle, police reported that they found a .38 revolver, heroin, cash, and packaging materials.
On Monday, Rice pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony. He was previously charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.
Rice is being recommended to two years in jail, plus three years of post-release supervision. He was remanded to Tompkins County Jail without bail or bond. A sentencing date has been set for Oct. 18.
