ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Health Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a dog that bit a person Monday on South Quarry Street in Ithaca.
A dog described as a black and white chihuahua or chihuahua mix was reportedly running loose near the apartment complex between South Quarry Street and Valentine Place off of East State Street in Ithaca when it bit a person. The dog had a green collar and tags.
The health department wants to verify the vaccination status of the dog over a 10-day period. If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy, the risk of rabies can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person bitten won’t be necessary.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688.
