ITHACA, N.Y. — An Ithaca woman pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon Friday in Tompkins County Court following a police raid of her hotel room in July, when police reported finding a handgun and fentanyl-laced heroin.

Aisha S. Smith, 39, of Ithaca, was arrested July 31 at an inn on the 500 block of Stewart Avenue after the Ithaca Police SWAT team and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office seized two separate baggies of suspected heroin and a .44-caliber revolver-style handgun, according to court records. Field tests conducted indicated the presence of heroin and fentanyl in the seized baggies, records show.

Smith was initially charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, but only indicted on the felony weapon possession charge. The district attorney’s office is recommending three and a half years in state prison with two and a half years post-release supervision, according to court records.
Smith pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree during a hearing Friday. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered by the court. A date has not been set for sentencing yet.
