ITHACA, NY – Kelsey O’Connor is the managing editor of The Ithaca Voice.

Background: I am originally from the Boston area and came to Ithaca in 2009 to study journalism at Ithaca College, where I dedicated most of my college life to working for The Ithacan, where I served in various roles including reporter, photo editor, news editor and finally editor in chief in 2013. From there, I worked as a crime, courts and breaking news reporter for The Ithaca Journal before joining The Ithaca Voice in 2016. When I went off to school, I never imagined I would be covering local news, but now I would never want to do anything different. I find the decline of local news across the country troubling and harmful to communities. I am always happy to chat about local news, story ideas, or concerns.

Favorite Ithaca meal: Garbage dog from the Star Truck in Press Bay Alley (Now at Ten Forward Cafe about Autumn Leaves Bookstore). Whether you’re vegan or not, it’s a delicious mess.

Favorite way to spend a Friday night in Ithaca: I’d like to pretend that I do cool things on Fridays, but to be honest I’m usually watching Netflix, reading or playing video games. But when it’s warm, I’m usually off hiking or camping.

Fun fact: I’m a total plant geek, and I’m working really hard to turn my apartment into a greenhouse. You can also find me at the dog park or on trails often with my very fluffy German Shepherd, Finn. Or out on the water racing with the Ithaca Dragon Boat Club!
