TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. — With snow falling and slippery road conditions Thursday morning, some schools and organizations are planning a late start.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Tompkins, Seneca and Cortland Counties on Wednesday, effective until 7 p.m Thursday.  As of 3 a.m. Thursday, the NWS Binghamton station said some areas of Tompkins should expect to get an additional three to five inches of snow, with morning snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour.

NWS estimates parts of Tompkins will get four to eight inches of snow in total, with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour.

Drivers should beware of treacherous travel conditions during the morning commute.
