TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. – Tompkins County is facing another bout of hazardous weather this week, with light snow and frigid temps prompting some area closings.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Warning from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday. According to NWS forecasts, Tompkins will see wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero, as arctic air combines with gusts over 25 miles per hour.

“A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values. Frostbite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. Stay indoors. If you must go out, limit your time outside and dress in layers,” NWS cautions.
