LANSING, N.Y. — A man was taken into custody Monday morning after he allegedly exposed himself and harassed staff, threatened to shoot deputies and barricaded himself in his room for several hours at the Econo Lodge.
According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the hotel on Triphammer Road at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday. Sheriff Derek Osborne said the man was reported to be exposing himself and harassing staff. When deputies arrived, Osborne said the man shut himself in his room, said he had a firearm inside and threatened to shoot deputies.
The sheriff’s office, assisted by several other agencies including New York State Police, Ithaca Police Department, Cayuga Heights, Lansing Fire and Bangs Ambulance, was on scene for several hours until the man was safely apprehended around 8:30 a.m. The SWAT Team was also on scene.
“These types of events are always challenging, but thanks to the professional and coordinated effort of all involved, this incident was resolved in a safe and efficient manner,” Osborne said.
The sheriff’s office identified as Scott Linderberry, 50. He was charged with public lewdness, resisting arrest, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
