ITHACA, N.Y. — Two men have been charged with larceny after allegedly stealing motorcycles from Cornell’s campus.
In October, four off-road motorcycles valued at about $7,500 in total were reported stolen. They were taken in the area of Bookbank Drive in the Town of Ithaca on Cornell’s east campus, according to Cornell University Police. At the time of the report, one of the owners said he believed one of his motorcycles was being offered for sale on Craigslist.
Because of the Craigslist ad, investigators from Cornell Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office say they were able to recover one of the stolen motorcycles from a residence in the Town of Brooktondale. Investigators were also able to develop information that led to the recovery of two of the three other stolen motorcycles.
Two men were arrested in connection with the thefts, including Lucas Thomas, 38, and Jason M. Denmark, 42. Both were charged with three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Thomas was arraigned in Town of Ithaca Court in December. Denmark was arrested Jan. 27 by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant and turned over to Cornell Police. He was then arraigned in Town of Lansing Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
