ITHACA, N.Y. – The suspect who allegedly fired a gun in an East Hill apartment on Wednesday has been charged with first degree robbery and is being held in the Tompkins County Jail.
Police arrested 23-year-old Jesse B. Hill, of Elmira, in Alpine Junction after he fled the scene of a complaint in the Town of Ithaca.
According to Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne, dispatchers received a report of shots fired in an apartment building on the 300 block of Maple Avenue at about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect left the area before deputies made contact.
Deputies pursued the vehicle, a silver Kia sedan, south on Route 13 before New York State Police stopped the suspect in Alpine Junction with assistance from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office. Hill was taken into custody without incident.
Lieutenant Deputy Sheriff Kyle Koskinen said one bullet casing was recovered inside an apartment at 301 Maple Ave. and the bullet was found lodged in a tree outside the unit. No injuries are reported related to weapon or the vehicle pursuit.
Cayuga Heights Police, Ithaca Police, and Cornell University Police provided assistance.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
