ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca police are investigating a report of shots fired early Saturday morning on South Cayuga Street. No injuries were reported.
According to a news release, an officer on patrol heard the sound of gunshots on the 200 block of South Cayuga Street at 2:06 a.m. Dispatch also received a call reporting shots fired in a parking lot on the block.
IPD officers responded to the scene and spoke with witnesses, the press release says. No injuries were reported.
The Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, which police describe as a “very large area.”
Police activity was ongoing in the parking lot at Hotel Ithaca as of 8 a.m. Saturday.
In a statement, Chief Pete Tyler said, “It’s troubling to hear about this latest incident in an area so close to downtown where there were potentially lots of people out and about. It’s fortunate nobody got hurt from this reckless and dangerous situation.
