Tompkins County Health Department

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Tompkins County Health Department is seeking residents’ help locating a dog that bit a person in Fall Creek on Tuesday, May 7. The bite occurred in the evening near the intersection of North Aurora Street and Cascadilla Avenue.

In a press release, the Health Department said, “The dog is described as a large, mixed breed dog with short legs and medium-length dark brown and black streaked fur (brindle) with longer hair on the ears and legs. It is believed that the dog’s name may be ‘Odie.’ The dog was accompanied by a tall, thin man with short brown hair who was wearing glasses and a red sweater.”

If the department is able to rule out rabies within 10 days of the bite, the person who was bit can avoid post-exposure treatment. The department needs to verify the dog’s vaccination status.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688.
