ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Health Department is asking the public to help identify a dog that reportedly bit a person in Aldi on Friday, June 21.

According to a health department news release, the dog is described as a yellow lab or lab mix wearing a dark-colored harness. The dog was accompanied by a thin woman with light colored or gray hair. The health department said the dog bit someone at about 4 p.m. Friday at Aldi on Third Street in Ithaca.

The health department wants to find the dog to verify its vaccination status and health over a 10-day period. If the dog can be located and found to be healthy, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and the person bitten can avoid rabies post-exposure treatment.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688.
