RICHFORD, N.Y. — A 77-year-old Ithaca resident was killed in a crash Sunday on Route 79 in Richford, according to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.

A three-vehicle crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday, June 9, the sheriff’s office said Monday, when a vehicle traveling east on Route 79 near Terrell Road went into the oncoming lane of traffic, striking a motorcycle and car. The motorcyclist, who the sheriff’s office has identified as Robert A. Spaulding, 77, of Ithaca, was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The drivers of the two other vehicles were also transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Berkshire Fire Department, Richford Fire Department and Maine EMS.

The investigation is ongoing.
