TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. — The Trumansburg Police Department is advising local residents to make sure their vehicles’ doors are locked after reports of items being stolen from unlocked vehicles overnight.

In a post Friday morning on Facebook, Trumansburg police said they were receiving calls that an unknown individual sometime overnight stole belongings out of unlocked vehicles parked in driveways. The thefts were mostly from cars in the area of Cayuga and Prospect streets.

“TPD is urging residents to lock their vehicles. So far, the individuals are not physically breaking into vehicles, they are only targeting vehicles that are unlocked. For example, one report had two vehicles in the driveway, one locked and one unlocked and the only vehicle that was entered was the unlocked one and the other vehicle was left alone,” the department said in a statement on Facebook.
