(Updated 2 p.m. Wednesday) — This story has been updated a statement from Lime.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Four LimeBikes were set on fire early Wednesday morning and the Ithaca Police Department is asking the public for information that might lead to who set the fires.

At about 2:24 a.m. Wednesday, the Ithaca Fire Department and police were called to a report of two LimeBikes – the city’s rental bikes – on fire in the area of North Cayuga and Cascadilla streets.

A couple of minutes later while officers were checking the area, they spotted another LimeBike on fire on the 400 block of Geneva Street. Then at about 2:57 a.m., a fourth LimeBike was discovered on fire on the 400 block of North Albany Street.

All the bikes were extinguished without incident, IPD said.

In a statement, a Lime spokesman said, “Vandalizing bikes is illegal and dangerous. Lime is actively working with law enforcement to investigate and those responsible will face criminal penalties. These actions only harm those who rely on these vehicles every day as an affordable, convenient way to get around.”

Police are investigating the fires and ask that any witnesses or anyone with information about who set the fires contact IPD. Police are also looking for video from people in the area who have residential cameras.
