ITHACA, N.Y. — Members of local law enforcement will be taking orders at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar on Thursday to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York.
Officers and Special Olympics athletes will be at Applebee’s from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Applebee’s at 2300 Triphammer Rd., Ithaca. Officers will join the staff to greet customers, bus tables and serve guests. People having dinner at Applebee’s will have the opportunity to donate a special “tip” to help benefit the Special Olympics athletes.

There will be officers from the Ithaca Police Department, New York State Park Police, New York State Police, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and Cornell University Police.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is a volunteer organization formed by members of law enforcement to support Special Olympics. They helped raise more than $2 million for Special Olympics in 2018, according to a news release.
The funds raised go toward the athletes’ expenses, like food, lodging, uniforms and transportation, so they can participate at no cost. This year, Ithaca had two athletes compete in the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, Kinsey Henry and Cassie Taber.
