ITHACA, N.Y. — Taste of Soul Ithaca brings local African and Black American chefs from diverse cultural backgrounds together to celebrate and honor the richness and diversity of our community through cuisine. Taste of Soul Ithaca is a one-day event featuring local chefs and 18 authentic cultural dishes along with music, live entertainment, and more. But most importantly, Real Black People Food, Cooked By Real Black People.

There are few events in Tompkins County that recognize its Black American community in an authentic manner. Apart from Juneteenth there is no other event that celebrates our local Black community, its businesses, and caters to our larger Ithaca/Tompkins County community. Food is an essential part of people’s lives, and as such is much more than just a means of survival. It is also an important way we communicate culture, and community. Taste of Soul Ithaca invites Ithaca and the surrounding cities to be a part of a unique event that brings people from diverse backgrounds and experiences together to celebrate community around traditional African and Black American food.

“We have enjoyed their experiences providing different cultural experiences to the community through providing food for different events. Through those experiences, we have noticed that people value the cultural capital in the history and the story of the food when prepared and presented by people who love and live the story of Soul Food. Taste of Soul Ithaca is a way to give Ithaca and the surrounding cities with a way to experience Soul Food with the Soul.”
